NCAA Division I & II Freshman Eligibility Standards

All students must register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.

Important Information About Division I and Division II Initial-Eligibility

Students at a Division I school must successfully complete 16 approved core courses to be eligible to practice, play and receive financial aid.  Division II requires 16 core courses for student athletes enrolling on or after August 1, 2013.  In addition, Division I requires that 10 core courses be completed before the senior year of high school.  These 10 courses must be a combination of English, math or natural or physical science.  These courses must be distributed as prescribed by the NCAA. Further, for student athletes entering a Division I program on or after August 1, 2016 to be fully qualified to receive scholarship aid, practice, and compete in the first year of enrollment, a student must meet minimum GPA standards, ACT/SAT scores, and graduate from high school. Please visit the NCAA "2.3" website specifically dedicated to educating students and parents about these requirements.

For more information on core course distribution, test scores, and GPA requirements, view the NCAA Eligibility Center Quick Reference Guide (also available in Spanish). Student athletes should also review registration and other important information provided on the NCAA website.

Kent School District courses submitted to and approved by the NCAA are marked with “NCAA Approved” in the online course descriptions in this catalog.
